I am a biologist, researcher and university teacher
in the fields of (neuro-)immunology, molecular and cell biology as well as redox biochemistry. Working as a scientist is an exciting and challenging job, which allows me to work on different projects with many interesting people.
Ever since my studies, I have been working with redox-mediated signal transduction
and regulation of cellular functions - in the context of inflammatory diseases. I have become particularly interested in the cellular microenvironment and how extracellular redoxins
and other biomolecules affect cell-communication and the immune response. I have recently started working on an exciting new project about the tumour microenvironment
and how it regulates immune cell recruitment, activation but also immune suppression. This project is part of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre TRR332 on neutrophil biology.
During my career, I was fortunate to work in different laboratories in Germany and also abroad
in Sweden, Argentina and the UK. I have learned from students, coworkers and supervisors and had great mentors
along the way. For me collaborative and translationalscience, university teaching
and promotion of young scientists
are important parts of my job. I have recently joined the Selma Meyer Mentoring program of the Heinrich-Heine university as mentor.
